• Create a Taxpayer Advocate

One of the Board of Equalization's major responsibilities is to audit the operations and practices of California's 58 County Assessors. Parrish has worked with Assessors to improve their operations and insure compliance. Most significantly, he served as Chairman of the Board's Property Tax Committee for four years. That committee creates and reviews every property tax regulation in our state.

As Assessor he will eliminate waste and institute taxpayer friendly policies:

• First, As other major counties have, with existing staff, create a Taxpayer Advocate to assist taxpayers.

• Second, Bring service to north and south county with two satellite offices (there are none now) located in existing County space, at no additional rent expense, staffed with existing employees who live near the satellite locations, to serve taxpayers, as other Assessors have done. Unfortunately, traffic is getting worse than ever. This will eliminate many hours of wasted time for both taxpayers and county employees.

• Third, Extend the deadline for tax appeals from September 15, to November 30, giving taxpayers an extra 45 days, as 48 other County Assessors have done.

• Fourth, Fight for taxpayers exemption rights and allow taxpayers of Orange County all the lawful exemptions they are qualified for and with the services that they are entitled to, which the taxpayers in other counties now receive.
