Wilma Wilson was born in Tallulah, Louisiana. After graduating from Ruben McCall High School, she attended Delta Area Vocational School in Monroe, Louisiana where she became a License Vocational Nurse.

She moved to Los Angeles in 1972. She is married to Pastor William M. Wilson Jr., and Co-Pastor with him at Peace & Joy Christian Church. Together they have five children, Tokewisha, April, Tamala, Turhan, and Troy, twelve (12) grandchildren. She received an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (Registered Nurse) from Compton Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from California State Los Angeles, Masters in Counseling, Masters of Science in Psychology with a Marriage and Family Child Therapist from Pepperdine University. She completed 98 hours toward a Masters Degree in Divinity at Talbot School of Ministry (Biola University). She graduated from Pacific Coast University School of Law with a JD.

Wilma was the owner of Back to Eden Health Food Store for five years in the City of Carson. In 1994, she became the founder and Executive Director of Peace & Joy Care Center, a non-profit organization for battered women and their children and Peace & Joy Child Development Center for infants, preschool and K-6th grade. Wilma has been featured on Channel (7) news, expounding on issues concerning domestic violence and has receive numerous of Federal, State, Assembly, Congressional Awards. She was name as one of the City of Carson (6) Magnificent Women (2008).

Wilma is a member of National Women Political Causus, Top Ladies of Distinction, National Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) and Kappa Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Beta Phi Kappa, LAAAWPAC Member, NAACP Member, Carson Women Club, Carson Chamber, Carson Black Chamber, Martin Luther King Democratic Club, Progressive Democratic Club, Gardena Democratic Club, Mexican American Democratic Club and a speecher at various churches, schools and universities. She enjoys running and playing chess.
