I was blessed by having two wonderful parents who instilled in me at a very young age the values of hard work, ethics and community service. Growing up in south central Los Angeles, I began working within the community. At 16, bilingual in both English and Spanish, I worked as a translator for the Los Angeles School District. I graduated high school with honors and attended USC on a full scholarship. While in high school, I was part of several service clubs that visited the elderly in nursing homes and served as a mentor in the community. Service to my community continued during my college years as a catechism teacher, a community advocate and as a spokesperson for Huntington Park Chamber of Commerce. I have worked in the capacity of controller and assistant controller for a variety of industries and finally municipal government. I made this switch from the private to the public sector in 1993 when I was hired by the City of Hermosa Beach as their Deputy City Treasurer. In 2000 I was fortunate to be hired as Torrance's Deputy City Treasurer. My husband and our four daughters are so proud to call Torrance our home. And while I am a devoted mother and wife, I always find the time to work within the community and give back. ACTIVE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
