Candidate for
State Representative; District 194; Democratic Party

My name is Keith Newman and I am seeking your vote to become State Representative for the 194th District. I am not the party's candidate, I am not the unions candidate. I am the "Community's Candidate."I am the only candidate of the people, for the people, and if elected, will be elected by the people and not by some machine.

I seek the office of state representative because preparing children to participate in our democracy, in our economy, is the number one task of government. For many of our children we have failed miserably to fulfill that responsibility. If we are going to fix education we need to send educators Harrisburg.

I was lucky. I had a father and mother who loved me and taught me the values of individual integrity and the principal of equality. My father attended schools where African Americans and Jews were segregated from other students at lunch. He lost several cousins in the Holocaust, and from this he learned to promote equality. As a businessman he was the first in his community to promote an African American to foreman.

These are the values I've inherited and why I seek to end the academic achievement gap. A lofty goal you may say or think, but recognizing serious problems, designing solutions, persistently following up on them are the benchmarks of a good legislator. Those are my personality traits.

I seek this position knowing how important it is and pledging I will give it the full - time attention that the citizens of the 194th district deserve. In seeking this seat, I act not on my own goals and aspirations, but on the goals and aspirations that we have as a society, a society that believes in equal opportunity for all. These are the goals and aspirations that my father taught me while I was growing up, watching the civil rights struggles down South in the sixties. These are the goals and aspirations that my generation must reach, if we are to hold our head high amongst the greatest generation, the generation that handed to us a nation pledged to judge on the content of character.
