Representative Michael F. Gerber, 37, was born and raised in Montgomery County. Mike is in the middle of his third term in the state legislature and is coming off of a productive second term, during which he led the House effort to enact a statewide smoking ban and the state's first-ever alternative fuels bill. Mike was elected by his peers Chairman of the Southeast Delegation in the Democratic Caucus, and was appointed Majority Chairman of the Public Transportation Subcommittee and Majority Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee. Mike is also one of eleven members of the Board of Trustees of the State Employees' Retirement System, the state's $30 billion retirement fund. Politically, Mike is Chairman of the Pennsylvania House Democratic Campaign Committee, the statewide campaign arm of the House Democrats. Mike also carries political responsibilities at the national level, serving as Treasurer of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a national political organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. that supports state legislative campaign committees across the country. Mike is Of Counsel at the Philadelphia law firm of DrinkerBiddle. Mike comes to public service having established a strong legal career. Mike was recognized as one of the top 35 lawyers under the age of 40 in Pennsylvania by American Lawyer Media and as a "Rising Star" by Philadelphia Magazine's Pennsylvania Super Lawyers publication. Before his first election, Mike applied his legal skills to public service, having taken leave from his law firm to serve as legal counsel to Governor Ed Rendell's transition team and as a law clerk for Judge Ronald L. Buckwalter of the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mike's District is located in the Philadelphia suburbs and includes the Montgomery County municipalities of Conshohocken, Lower Merion, Narberth, Plymouth, Upper Dublin, Whitemarsh, and Whitpain. Mike's a local product, having graduated from Germantown Academy and the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Dean's List student and a defensive back on an Ivy League championship football team. Mike then graduated from Villanova University School of Law, cum laude, where he received a scholarship award for his contributions to community legal services. Mike, his wife Jessica, and their three children live in Whitpain Township. |
