Candidate for
Member of the City Council; City of Avalon

I have loved and enjoyed Avalon, and its harbor and beaches, since I was a small child. For too many years now, however, our beaches have consistently been rated among the most contaminated in the entire state. This spring, it is certain that Avalon will again be high on this infamous list, if not at the very top. The loss in visitors attributable to this annual embarrassment is enormous. Those visitors who do arrive are immediately confronted by the large, frightening signs advising against swimming. I know this problem has been seriously considered by the Council, and I commend its efforts, but if I am chosen to serve, I will bring a new urgency and determination to the task of finding a workable solution, and the means to pay for it.

I believe I can bring a historical perspective to the work of the Council, as well as practical experience in bringing to fruition such projects as our Community Center. Features such as exercise, computer and media rooms, kitchen facilities, and a theater with seating capacity of 200, are realistic and worthy goals. I see this project as timely, and one of high priority.

Along with the problems and challenges which face our community, there are plenty of worthwhile and imaginative ideas and solutions offered by the people of Avalon. It is my commitment, if given the chance, to work as hard as I can to see that careful and fair consideration is given to the expressed concerns and offerings of the members of this great community. I hope you will give me the opportunity to go to work for you!
