Candidate for
County Council; County of Delaware

Mario Civera is a military veteran, legislator, small business owner, and life-long resident of Delaware County. He will use his business expertise and 20 years of experience in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to help control costs in county government, promote job creation and the growth of small businesses, and helping Delaware County secure its fair share of state funding.

A graduate of Upper Darby High School, Mario served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force. He has owned and operated Civera's Delicatessen in Drexel Hill for nearly 25 years and served as State Representative in the 164th Legislative District since 1980. He also served a member of the Upper Darby Board of Commissioners from 1974 to 1992, a position that provided Mario the opportunity to learn the importance of a well-organized municipal government.

Elected twice by his fellow Republicans in the legislature to serve as Chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, Civera is responsible for helping to craft Pennsylvania's annual budget of about $28 billion. Civera has also played a leadership role on the issue of education, working to reduce the public school system's reliance on property taxes and promoting alternative funding solutions for private schools.

On the issue of health care Mario has been instrumental in the Healthy PA initiative designed to reduce health insurance costs, retain doctors in Pennsylvania, and improve the quality of care for patients. Mario has also been a long-time champion of public safety issues, working to improve 911 services and training, authoring legislation to expand emergency telephone service for all Pennsylvanians, and co-founding the Pennsylvania Firefighters and Emergency Services Legislative Caucus to promote issues important to our emergency services personnel.

Civera is now seeking to serve his community as a member of County Council, allowing him to spend more time in Delaware County with his family and grandchildren, while devoting additional attention to his business. Mario wants to continue his public service on the county level, putting his budget experience, knowledge of state government and other knowledge to use for local residents.
