What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit) Answer from Idella Thompson: I am a former councilwoman, on the design planning team for construction of the new school, I have tutored at Silverton Padeia School, am a member of Silverton's Block Watch Association, member of the Urban Forestry Board, and a resident of Silverton for 39 years. 2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit) Answer from Idella Thompson: We need to tighten our budget and I will work with the city manager and the finance director to decide what are our best options for spending the city's money. These are hard economic times. We need to make tough decisions for what is best for Silverton. The repair of Montgomery Road to Stewart Road needs urgent attention and I will work with the city aggressively to secure grants to help fund this necessary project without further taxing city residents. To help revitalize the city of Silverton. 3. What two actions would you promote to enhance city revenue or decrease city expenditures in order to balance the city budget, given the current economic conditions? (100 word limit) Answer from Idella Thompson: To strengthen the city's budget: suspend hiring of new employees will explore creative funding sources such as grant to boost the city's budget. 4. What steps should the local government take to ensure that the quality of rental property meets minimum legal standards?
