I was born and raised in Redwood City. I am honored to call this my hometown and to represent one of four generations currently living here. My grandmother came to Redwood City fifty-five years ago with her three daughters because this community offered employment and a chance for a high quality of life. Redwood City still offers those things, and so much more. I attended Garfield, John Gill, McKinley and Woodside, all public schools in Redwood City. I attended Girls State in middle school, and that sparked my interest in representative government. I believe that the combination of the education I received and the sense of community I grew up with influenced my drive and passion for public service. I received a scholarship and attended Mills College, then completed an internship in South Lake Tahoe before returning to Redwood City to raise my twin sons with my husband. I am a former preschool teacher, a past PTA president, a past board member of the Redwood City Education Foundation and am a board member and co-founder of Teach for Your Dreams. I am active in my twin sons' education, and believe that for all children, education is the key to achieving their goals and dreams. Further, I believe that a quality education system is essential to the success and quality of life in every community. I am a volunteer with Redwood City as a Housing and Human Concerns Committee member, as well as a volunteer with several local organizations. I have completed Redwood City's Partnership Academy for Community Teamwork (PACT), Community Builders and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) programs and am a Sworn Disaster Service Worker. I am also a founding member and past board member of the San Mateo County Chapter of California Women Lead. I work full-time as a San Mateo County Probation Officer, and, in that capacity I am a member of the Probation Detention Association, which is represented by Teamsters Local 856. I am also a member of the California Probation, Parole and Corrections Association (CPPCA) and have worked in collaboration with every law enforcement agency in San Mateo County in the course of my career. I am a member of the Redwood City/San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce and a graduate of their Leadership Program. I own a small business as an Independent Avon Representative. I am also a past member of the Downtown Business Group, and a yearly volunteer with their Hometown Holidays event. I have been politically active on behalf of a number of local candidates, and last year I was the Chairperson of Citizens to Protect Redwood City (CPRC) a grassroots political action committee. I have a long history in Redwood City, and have seen many changes here over my lifetime. I hope that the combination of my history, my experience and my passion will earn me your support on November 3rd. |
