Growing up in a small town in the Santa Cruz Mountains I experienced the power and effectiveness of communities coming together and have always felt strongly that it was everyone's responsibility to serve for the benefit of the greater good. Just before moving to Redwood City in 1997 I served as a firefighter/EMT for the Felton Volunteer Fire Department; learning what it meant to literally put my life on the line for my community. My wife, Melanie, of 22 years, and I, moved our family from the Santa Cruz Mountains to Redwood City in 1997 when I took a position with Peninsula Covenant Church. It didn't take long to decide this was "home" and to begin getting involved in the community. I was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2001; reappointed unanimously in '04 and '07 and served 2 back-to-back terms as Chairperson. Melanie is involved in coaching sports at various levels, including as the JV head softball coach for the Woodside High Lady Wildcats. Our daughters, Jessica (Canada Middle College/Woodside HS), Heather and Megan (Roy Cloud) love and are fully involved in sports and a variety of other activities in our community. Our family enjoys traveling together; locally on "family adventures" or on longer trips like our week to Ensenada, Mexico last summer to build homes for people who desperately need them. We love to cook (and eat) together, play sports, go on hikes, read, and enjoy the community we love so much, Redwood City. |
