ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Reflecting back on my accomplishments, I provided the leadership that resulted in achieving our long time dream of having a community pool which is now equipped with solar heating. Since opening in 2000, the pool has been the central gathering place for enjoying recreational activities in our community. I am very proud of this accomplishment. I have worked hard to sustain and improve the services available to our community. I provided leadership for implementing the seismic retrofit of the City Hall, the place where we meet and conduct City's business all in one location while our public safety personnel conduct business in a safe and secure facilities. To protect the health of our citizens, I spearheaded adoption of an ordinance limiting freight forwarding in the Industrial Park. My extensive finance background has been an asset during these challenging economic times. We developed a balanced budget that reduced personnel and operating expenses while still funded programs that reflect the needs and values of our community. To address our long-term infrastructure needs, we placed a business license tax measure on the ballot. The hotel room tax on the November ballot is another example of our efforts to generate revenues without increasing the burden on our residents. During my time in office, we built senior housing, affordable housing, a teen center, a community garden, a dog park, quarry road park, a bicycle path, the community park, and the Mission Blue Center. In order to protect our small town atmosphere, I supported the funding for open space acquisition. Our city is the first in the County, if not all throughout the State, to adopt Green Building Ordinance. Just recently, we received a State Award for our environmental leadership. Provided funding for our schools and library, and developed Shuttle service programs. I Supported the expansion of the Arts program including our very successful Chamber Music Series (which hope to secure funding for its continuation in the near future); Arts in the Park and Arts co-sponsorship program. Through the careful study of our budget and respect for transparency and open government, created the city's website and our Blog. Our blog is a model that is being used all through out the state as a sample of public access and information dissemination. Began televising Council and Planning Commission meetings; Just Recently, began streaming the Council, Planning Commission, Recreation Commission as well as Open Space and Ecology meetings. Banned quarry trucks from residential streets. Began the Mayor's Health Initiative Program (First Phase - Mayor's Saturday Walk Program). Conducted Health Fairs and health classes. Implemented "Hire Locals First Program." This project shall be under further expansion. Completed the Mission Blue Center Multipurpose room, Ball Field, and Tennis Courts. At the same time, approved the design and construction of the CalTrain Bayshore Station; various improvements to our facilities and infrastructure including changing tables in the City facilities, and improvements at our Marina. In addition, fulfilled my dream of having a bridge that we can drive, walk and bike. In the very near future, bird signs will enhance the education of our community. In summary, I have demonstrated a strong leadership in representing you and with my strong financial background, I have helped the City to meet the challenges of one of the worst periods of our country's economy without ever thinking of going to taxpayers for additional funds. The following is a partial listing of my accomplishments: - Completed the Visitation Garden Senior Apartments and Sunrise Room Senior Activity Center
