Full Biography for Sofia M. Freer

|
My life story is a bit unusual. I am a naturalized American citizen whose journey to Half Moon Bay began in Poland where I was born during World War II. My parents eluded Hitler and we survived Stalin's labor camps. I spent much of my childhood in a refugee camp in Tanzania and started attending public school in the United States in seventh grade. In college I majored in chemistry and biochemistry and after graduation and a year of graduate study I worked in scientific research. Later, as my own children were getting ready for college, I embarked on a teaching career and taught high school chemistry in the San Diego Unified School District. My husband and I chose Half Moon Bay as our retirement home because of its unparalleled beauty and charm. After a lifetime of working and raising a family, this is my time to give back. |
