This information is provided by the candidate |
I believe in working with everyone. All voices should be heard and respected in addressing critical questions including: public ownership of our water distribution system; your right to vote on large water expenditures; the size, location and control of a desalination system; and Cal Am's stewardship of our water.JUDI LEHMAN Occupation: Businesswoman Education and Qualifications: I ask for your vote to continue to represent you on the board of directors of the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District. I was elected to the Board in 2001, and re-elected in 2005. Before that, I was honored to serve two terms as an elected director on the board of the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. I believe in working with everyone. All voices should be heard and respected. We can solve our problems only by working together and setting aside past differences. Many organizations have become involved in the current debate regarding desalination projects. I remain committed to solving our problems through open dialogue with all interested parties and a judicious mix of programs and projects. We are at a critical juncture in solving our water supply issues. I support water solutions that are environmentally and fiscally responsible. Now more than ever, in the face of a tough economy and under legislative and natural pressures to reduce water use, I believe we need to continue to pursue measures that are fair and equitable to people and the environment, that allow for sustainable jobs and growth, and that preserve our unique quality of life. I support cost-effective water solutions, including: Minimizing lost and unaccounted-for water; Recycling wastewater; Pushing for smarter use of the precious water we have; Expanding aquifer storage and recovery; Providing desalination to assure a drought-tolerant water supply. I have faithfully served residents, property and business owners on the Monterey Peninsula. I have actively protected your interests as water consumers, as stewards of our fragile public trust water resources, and as concerned citizens who have the right to be involved in important water decisions. I have helped shape the District's policy direction and action toward rational water solutions with open, transparent public involvement. I participate diligently as an active member of key bodies such as the Seaside Groundwater Basin Watermaster, Water for Monterey County Coalition, Special Districts Association of Monterey County, the water district's Legislative Committee, and others. With your support and vote I will be proud to continue to represent our area and strive for cost-effective water solutions. Thank you. Judi Lehman |
