I have called Duarte my home for nearly 16 years. Raised in Duarte, I attended Maxwell Elementary school and graduated from Duarte High School. At Cal State LA, while pursuing a Master's in Political Science, I was selected as the only student from CSULA for the Leon and Sylvia Panetta Congressional Internship Program. I served as an intern for Congressman Susan Davis (D-CA, 53rd Dist.) in Washington, D.C. After returning from D.C., I decided to get more involved in my community. For two years now, I have served as Vice-President of Youth of the Duarte LULAC. In this capacity, I brought school, small business and non-profit resources together to provide Duarte and Mount Olive students with college application seminars/tutoring, scholarship and financial aid workshops and resume-building and interview skills training. I also served as a Public Safety Commissioner in Duarte during its inaugural year. During my time in the Public Safety Commission, I worked hard to involve the public in public safety matters and that information was delivered to them properly. I worked with residents in their effort to receive long-needed services for Lena Valenzuela Park. Through my help, Lena Valenzuela was appropriated $18,000 for solar lighting and research into reinforcing its property walls. Most importantly, I worked to ensure that the residents surrounding Lena Valenzuela Park were informed and involved in the decision process. I hope to have your support for my election to the Duarte City Council. |
