Dr. John Hamilton is an educator, consultant and trainer in the areas of change in education and organizations. His tenure in Education and Organizational Development is a combined total of 15 years. Dr. Hamilton earned his Doctoral degree in Education (Organizational Leadership) from the University of La Verne, Masters of Education from Loyola Marymount University, and his Bachelors in Sociology from San Diego State University.

Dr. Hamilton began his educational career at the University of Southern California. During his time at USC, he assisted students of color interested in the medical field from middle school and high school to think seriously about the medical profession through math and science programming and mentoring. Additionally, Dr. Hamilton has worked with the CalWORKS welfare-to-work program and was a classroom teacher for 3rd/5th grade students and adult education in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Currently, he serves as the Director of New Student Programs for the Academic Advancement Program at UCLA. In this position, he provides leadership to assist historically underrepresented students with academic resources to graduate. He has taught Cultural Diversity, Multicultural Counseling and Socio-cultural Foundations courses at Pepperdine University, National University, and Occidental College. He has served as Coordinator of the Learning Resource Center at Loyola Marymount University where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations and supervised a large staff of academic tutors.

More recently, Dr. Hamilton served as the Special Assistant to the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs at California State University, Long Beach where he made recommendations concerning retention issues for students of color. During this time, he was fortunate to serve on the accreditation team and understands the process for an institution to remain eligible. He continues his service at CSU, Long Beach as a part-time faculty member in the Sociology Department.

Dr. Hamilton has assisted with the development of Saving Our Sons (SOS) and Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE) to increase the self-esteem and leadership skills of males and females in Carson and surrounding areas. He provides professional development workshops for school districts and schools on cultural diversity, closing the achievement gap for African American males, and increasing students of color participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Dr. Hamilton has presented at numerous conferences and workshops on the plight of African American males across the country. He is the author of Cinque: Rites Of Passage, The Elevator is Broken and How Today's Black Men Graduate from College.

Dr. Hamilton is a family man. He contributes his success to the support of his wife Kathe an educator for the Los Angeles Unified School District and daughter Kayla who keeps him grounded and motivated to do his best and be his best.

As Dr. Hamilton moves to become the next Compton Community College District-Board Trustee of Area 2, he believes his collaborative leadership will provide Options for our youth, build Collaborations among stakeholders for accountability and responsibility, and Independence with a successful accreditation.
