Biography

Bruce Allen Boyden at the age of 12 took a part-time job as an aide at the then newly opened Christian Foundation School in Compton under the Leadership of Dr. Marjorie Booker,C.E.O., who inspired him to choose education as his future career. His early experiences under her guidance and vast knowledge gave him a foundation that prepared him for an aspiring teaching career.

At the age of 19, Boyden was elected to chair of the Early Childhood Education Advisory Committee at Compton Community College. During his tenure as Chair, a post he held for 10 Years, revamped their bylaws to sharpen the focus on their main goals: helping the ECE office to coordinate better with citizens groups having similar interests and was instrumental in advocating for the planning and development of the State-Of-The-Art, Multi-Million Dollar Child Development Center which still stands and serves Children on the Campus of Compton Community College today.

Boyden, as a committed "Servant-Leader" has been elected and chaired many community organizations, too many to list serving mobilizing and coordinating community resources in a combined attack on problems of unemployment, housing, and education all of which have a major environmental impact on the very young. Bruce, Somehow while still a High School Student at Dominguez Senior High, found time to earn 60 degree credits at Compton College, collecting such high grades that Pepperdine University took him upon graduation with a full academic scholarship where he obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree majoring in Social Psychology with a minor in Child Development.

Simultaneously, Boyden was enrolled in and completed several certificated programs at prestigious universities, such as Harvard, Stanford, and other institutions of higher learning. The last goal alone could take up all the time and attention of an ordinary person but to judge from his track record to date he is just the man to get any job done ------.

Having worked in a managerial capacity for a public school system Boyden understands how to effectively develop progressive, social, economic, and educational opportunities for a community. A native of California Boyden has extensive administrative experience. His extensive career in the Education serving as a Head-Start Teacher, Public School Teacher, Instructional Supervisor, Coordinator and Director of the Mathematics, Science and Technology division of the 80,000+ Public School System in Washington, DC has prepared him for challenges of the 21st century.

Boyden believes that the current crisis in public education affords us the opportunity to reinvent schools and shift the demands of a rapidly changing world and we must redefine the role of education in society in order to better prepare students for the world in which they live, work, and play. His personal goal is to serve as a catalyst for effecting change in education empowering and improving educational services to our future.

Drew University of Medicine and Science-Head Start Program serving 1,800+ children daily on March 1, 2009.
