Reason for Seeking Position of Common Pleas Court JudgeBy Angelo J. FogliettaCandidate for Judge; Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas; District 1 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I have been an attorney, admitted to practice in Pennsylvania for approximately 31 years. I also had the privilege of serving as a committee person under Joe Vignola when he was the leader of the Second Ward. My legal background has been varied and marked by a number of significant accomplishments on behalf of my clients. I have never, during my 31 plus years as a member of the bar, been the subject of any disciplinary proceedings. I have been recommended by the Philadelphia Bar Association and have been endorsed by the Ironworkers and Riggers and Stagehand unions. I have also received a rating of AV from Martindale Hubbell, which is the highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards an attorney can attain. This is a rating of which I am particularly proud, since it from my peers in the legal community. I would like, at this time in my life, to give something back to my profession, which has enabled me to do many things I might otherwise have only dreamed of. I love the practice of law and I would bring that same spirit and vitality to the bench and hopefully help restore to the Judiciary some of the respect and integrity that I think has been lacking in the eyes of the public at large, especially in light of some recent events in counties in our state such as what has been going on in Luzerne County. When I talk to people I know and tell them that I am running for judge in Philadelphia their first reaction is WHY? Such is the low esteem that the general public has for the bench. I want to change that perception of our judiciary. I tell juries that our system of Justice isn't perfect, but I honestly believe it is the best system as yet devised to ensure access to our courts for everyone and a fair administration of justice for all. I want to continue to be a part of that system and my election to the bench is the next logical step for me in my legal career. I pledge to you, the voters of this great city, that if my candidacy is successful I will work diligently everyday to justify your vote for me, and to be worthy of the trust I will be asking you to place in me. Again, I thank you taking the time to read this short synopsis of why I ask for your support and for your vote on May 19, 2009 by pushing button number 19. |
