How can we improve life in Upper Merion Township? Accountable Fiscal planning The Township must becomes more responsible when drafting a budget + Stay ahead of World, National, and Local trends. To be able to see theses changes before the Citizens are hurt because of the government's lack of knowledge, to see far enough ahead, in order to make an appropriate change. (Economic downturns + Pay Increases + Building Codes + Keep a good feel for a stable tax base) Alternative Energy Introduce business owners and the citizens to Alternative, Renewable Fuel that will replace fossil fuel in the very near future. Figure 1.1 The Role of Renewable Energy Consumption in the Nation's Energy Supply, 2006 Upper Merion Township is behind in moving ahead with alternative fuels. (SOLAR + WINDPOWER + GEOTHERMAL + BIOMASS + HYDROELECTRIC) The building codes and the Land Use Laws must be brought up to the point were developbers will know what must be done to move the Township to a GREEN 21st centry. Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources--such as sunlight wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat--which are renewable (naturally replenished). In 2006, about 18% of global final energy consumption came from renewables, with 13% coming from traditional biomass, such as wood-burning. Hydroelectricity was the next largest renewable source, providing 3% (15% of global electricity generation), followed by solar hot water/heating, which contributed 1.3%. Modern technologies, such as geothermal energy, wind power, solar power, and ocean energy together provided some 0.8% of final energy consumption.Climate change concerns coupled with high oil prices, peak oil and increasing government support are driving increasing renewable energy legislation, incentives, and commercialization. Investment capital flowing into renewable energy climbed from $80 billion in 2005 to a record $100 billion in 2006. Most, or even all of renewable energy can be produced in our own country. Green Industries Introduce GREEN to Upper Merion Township. Just as General Electric was a leader in supplying high paying jobs during the Cold War, right here in our township, we can host, in Upper Merion area, an all-purpose GREEN INDUSTRY. Developing an area to house the buildings and factories to support an industrial complex for GREEN Economy PRODUCTS, that will be the pride of our Nation. We will extend invitations to corporation through out the world to come here to take part in this world-changing format. Energy Conservation Some of the energy we can use is called renewable energy. These include solar, wind, geothermal and hydro. These types of energy are constantly being renewed or restored. But many of the other forms of energy we use in our homes and cars are not being replenished. Fossil fuels took millions of years to create. They cannot be made over night. And there are finite or limited amounts of these non-renewable energy sources. That means they cannot be renewed or replenished. Once they are gone they cannot be used again. So, we must all do our part in saving as much energy as we can. It is difficult to imagine spending an entire day without using energy. We use energy to light our cities and homes, to power machinery in factories, cook our food, play music, and operate televisions. In a home where electricity supplies all of the energy requirements, the average energy consumption is shown below: Air conditioner and heater = 50% Water heater = 20% Lighting and small appliances = 10% Refrigerator = 8% Other = 5% Ovens and stoves = 4% Clothes dryer = 3% = 100% Partnerships in Green There are many non-profits organizations that offer help to communities like ours. CCEnergy can be a great help to us, as well as other Cooperatives like them. They offer:
