Independent representationBy John C. RothCandidate for School Director; Boyertown Area School District; Region 3; 2 Year Term | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
As an unaligned member of the school board, I am able to make decisions independently. My appointment to the Boyertown Area School Board came through the court system. I applied for the position along with eight other candidates. I and my current opponent ended in a deadlock with four board members voting for me and four for her. This sent the decision to the Berks County Courts where a judge had to make a decision. Each of us was allowed to testify and to have two witnesses to speak on our behalf. I had the CEO of my organization and a member of the community speak on my behalf. The other candidate was represented only by a current school board member. After a very short deliberation, considering our qualifications, the judge appointed me to the school board. My independent voice continues on the school board. I will always weigh the pros and cons of all possible decisions before voting. I am not indebted to other board members or obligated to their support. My decisions have been and will continue to be based on my extensive knowledge in education. We have very good programs in the schools now but they can still be improved. We have excellent participation in our extra-curricular activities such as sports, band, chorus, clubs, etc. All of these need to work together to produce young men and women who are prepared to go on with their education or to enter the work force. My independent voice will be dedicated to reaching that goal. |
