Change in Darby Township's CourtroomBy Joseph D. FrancioneCandidate for District Justice; Magisterial District Court; District 32-2-40 | |

Many are afraid to speak up!After meeting with hundreds of Darby Township residents door to door, it is my observation that many men and women are hesitant to express thier desires and comments for fear of some vague retribution by our own politicians whose salaries we pay! As District Justice I will be allowed only so much "political" activity but as a resident of Darby Township I will take any possible initiative concerning matters that are brought before me that I believe require administrative consideration. Many residents have expressed frustration and dissatisfaction when attending meetings and asking questions only to be "put off" or told to "leave, the meeting is now over." I intend to do the best job possible as District Justice and this includes investigating any and all issues outside the courtroom in which my judicial position does not preclude my taking part. It has been pointed out to me that since I am running as a Democrat, I have received no money and little help from others in conducting my run for office. This is how I prefer things to be so that when I obtain office I will not owe anyone "favors" or "special consideration" due to their financial or "signature gathering" support. With the exception of approximately 24 signatures obtained by a Democratic friend, I obtained each and every signature (over 350) on my petitions completely by my own efforts. I state this not to brag but rather to explain why I will owe no one (politician or non-politician) any special consideration once I've obtained office. As a resident I would expect that you are much like myself in that we should want a District Justice that owes nothing to anyone. A Courtroom is an extremely important part of our local government and complete fairness, honesty and an "even playing field" are basic REQUIREMENTS of this privilege to serve, and not merely desirable qualities. |
