Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Ian A Thomas

Candidate for
State Representative; District 168

This information is provided by the candidate

When decision making, I believe in looking at the facts, deciphering who will benefit and support the position most likely to assist the most vulnerable. When we help lift up the most vulnerable among us we will lift up our entire society.

UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE

Healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

I support Gov. Rendell's Cover All Pennsylvanians (CAP) plan which will cover all 800,000 uninsured.

Until CAP is lifted to a vote; I support PA Access to Basic Care (PA ABC) which would assist 270,000 of our state's uninsured.

GREEN ECONOMY

Energy Independence Strategy

Investing in wind and solar technologies will bring jobs to our state in addition to reducing our state's collective carbon footprint.

Transitioning our state's building standards to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED) standards will greatly reduce energy consumption from the construction of and maintenance of new buildings.

EDUCATION

A recent costing-out study of our public educational system is strongly underfunded.

Stronger state funding for public education will assist in reducing the property tax burden and more fairly distribute funding to districts most in need.

Investing in Head Start has proven to be an effective cost saving measure. For every $1 spent into Head Start, $7 is saved in the long run.

Cheyney State is the only 1 of 14 state colleges that is running a deficit. Our state representative is responsible for speaking out for the students.

LIVING WAGE

Thankfully our state has recently passed an increase of our minimum wage; however, workers making this wage are still not making a living wage.

PRO-CHOICE

Abortions should be rare and legal. The best way to reduce abortions is to increase the quality of life of every citizen in conjunction with age appropriate sex education.

CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOPHOLES

Large corporations often take advantage of the Delaware Tax Loophole, whereas many local businesses do not. By implementing combined reporting, we can close this loophole and help even the playing field for small businesses in PA.
