Phase out coal in and nuclear energyBy Mary E. "Liz" HughesCandidate for State Representative; District 23 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Penna needs to lead the way for safe, clean, energy systemsPenna. emits the third largest amount of carbon in the U.S. and 1% of the worlds's. Therefore we need to lead the way to create a clean environment, reducing cardio vascular disease and cancer. The answer is community run renewable energy systems, and mass transit. Coal and nuclear energy provide mass profits for greedy corporations and are not in the interest of the citizens. Indiana, a Rust Belt state has a thriving environmental industry, creating hundres of thouasnds of jobs, millions in profits to manufacturers and billions in sales. Why doeosn't PA. Gov. Rendell have the courage to phase out coal as did Gov. Sibelius of Kansas who listened to the people of her state?? Nuclear energy is a dangerous, expensive way to boil energy for the sake of corporate mass profits. Former head of the nuclear navy, Admiral Hyman Rickover atated. after he retired, that nuclear energy systems were created to make nuclear weapons look good. |
