Expanding Access to Quality, Affordable Health CareBy Jason AltmireCandidate for US Representative; District 4 | |

Health care must be made more affordable and accessible for everyone, especially for the 47 million Americans currently without health insurance.Health care must be made more affordable and accessible for everyone, especially for the 47 million Americans currently without health insurance. We should start by expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), a public-private partnership, to cover 10 million kids. We also need to strengthen Medicare to ensure seniors receive quality care. Given that more than 27 million Americans work for a small business and do not have health care, I also want to make it easier for small businesses to provide their employees with health insurance. To do this, I am working to give small businesses tax credits and the option to join together to purchase insurance so they can reduce premium costs. Finally, I want to modernize our health care system by expanding the use of health IT and incentivizing preventative care so we can stop costly chronic diseases before they start. |
