Keep Thousand Oaks Financially Sound

By Ernest J. Le Gault

Candidate for Council Member; City of Thousand Oaks

This information is provided by the candidate
I will work to help small and local businesses that strenghten our economy.
The days of big development dollars pouring into the city's budget are over. Building a strong self contained economy will depend on three things: 1) Protecting and supporting small and local businesses. 2) Bringing in new businesses, which support our current social services for seniors and youth alike. 3) Aggressively pursuing financial self-reliance by breaking away from State and Federally funded programs.

Too often cities engage in services begun with big government grants only to become dependant on these dollars that dry up after a few years or require the city to comply with rules unsuitable to that city's culture. When a city starts down this road it is a terrible trap. When budget cuts occur the city is left with two options: cut services or increase taxes.

I say, "live within your budget and remain independent." I say, "finance services and programs which create local jobs, generate city revenue by retaining local dollars, and attracting neighboring city dollars."

We need a bowling alley, a skate park, a better more complete transit program, more support of the Arts, and more service oriented businesses. If elected to the city council I will exercise financial restraint, invest in city supported revenue streams, and support the law enforcement agencies, which protect our city.
