"Building a Community of Learners"

By Dennis R. Hatland

Candidate for Board Member; Conejo Valley Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
As a school board member I'll work to promote a sense of unity within our schools and the community to encourage lifelong learning and citizenship. Establishing collaborative partnerships the school district and adult ed. can work with Thousand Oaks City Council members, city staff, sport and cultural organizations, Conejo Recreation and Park district, the County's Sheriffs Department along with service and community faith groups to build and main a strong community of learners.
California is in a financial crisis the likes of which has not been seen by many generations. Our state legislators are entrusted to manage the resources the citizens of our great state contribute. Unfortunately mismanagement, partisan politics, lack of vision and long-range planning and a sagging world-econonmy have resuleted in the "perfect financial storm."

As a community, we need to rely on ourselves at the local level to provide the highest quality of life for children, family, relatives and neighbors you may not know. This means working and sharing together. In these difficult times it is even more important that the school district sets an example and reaches out and solicit ideas and cooperation from citizens to evaluate and manage our financial resources wisely. Building a community of learners reley on the premise that we are all neighbors and want the best for each other.

The Conejo Valley School District is comprised of hundreds of dedicated professionals and para-professionals who contribute their expertise and talents everyday to provide the highest quality of learning for children. The district has a long established record for academic excellence and innovations. As a board member I plan to involve all segments of the community to work together to ensure excellent award-winning sustainable continous improvement contuin ues to be the hallmark of our local school district.

I plan to work in partnership with other elected officials, their staffs, Conejo Recreation and Park District, service organizations, churches, public works departments to do long-range planning and development to use our resources to improve the quality of life for all community members. This is what "Building a Community of Learners" is all about. I'll appreciate your support and vote on November 4th. Thank you. Let's make this happen!

Sincerely,

Dennis Hatland
