Candidates Night Statement, September 30, 2008

Good evening, my name is Ted Seche. I would like to thank the League of Women's Voters and the WUSD for sponsoring this event tonight, and thanks to all of you for being here with us.

To begin, I need to acknowledge the community of Windsor for their support of Measure B, the bond passed this Spring in support Windsor schools. Even in this economy, you placed your trust in this school district, in this board, by supporting the necessary funding that will allow us to provide a 21st century education for our children and to their children. Thank you!

As a member of the Board of Education, we are given, what I believe, is the very appropriate title of "trustees". Not only have you entrusted us with the responsibility to spend your tax dollars to fulfill a promise of adequate facilities for our students, but more importantly, you entrust us every day with the responsibility of educating your children.

I believe in the education we provide to our children. My three children have been in this district since kindergarten and are getting ready to graduate this coming spring from WHS.

I am proud that in my 12-year tenure as a member of the School Board, I have had the opportunity to help oversee the completion of the middle school, the construction and completion of this high school, as well as the graduation of all 10 classes from WUSD.

As a member of this Board, I have served 3 terms in the capacity as president, completed the Masters in Boardsmanship through CSBA and participated in several hours of the Masters of Governance training in support of my fellow board members upon their election to the Board. I understand what it takes to successfully manage and lead the Board of Education and I know the many challenges our district faces every school year. I am dedicated to education. As a teacher, I also know the challenges in the classroom.

As for our district, I anticipate that the next few years will be difficult as we deal with an uncertain fiscal future. However, I believe that we have the best administrative team in the county right here in Windsor, and I have absolute confidence in their ability to us manage this district effectively and responsibly.

The experience, education, and the history that I have with this school district gives me a unique perspective and the long-term vision necessary to offer leadership and guidance to this board and this district.

My hope is to develop a stronger base of parent and community involvement to support the education and social development of the youth in Windsor and to invite your participation so that, together, we can build a stronger community.

My years as a board member have demonstrated a record of sound decision-making, an open-minded approach to solving problems, and dedication to this community. My vision for a dynamic school district for the 21st century will meet the needs of all the children of our community. I believe that this school board should represent a model of leadership and respect for our children and this community. I look forward to continuing our efforts to work with the TOW in a collaborative governance model that meet the needs of this community and the local businesses.

I look to the future of our community so that we may provide the necessary facilities that will serve our community for many generations to come and to prepare our students for the challenges they will face in the 21st century.

I appreciate your time and consideration. My name is Ted Seche and I ask for your continued support on November 4th as a member of the WUSD Board of Trustees. Thank you.
