Provide more resources to encourage and promote neighborhood-focused programs, organizing, and safety.
Goal #1: LIVABLE NEIGHBORHOODS
Progress:
- Since 2006, the Neighborhood Alliance has been talking with City staff regarding providing neighborhood resources on the City's website. The process seems to have stalled with very little forward movement in 2007.
- The City was researching software that could help neighborhoods set up their own websites easily and at no cost. Unclear if this is still being pursued by the City.
- The Police Department recently starting posting a daily log of police activity: http://ci.santa-rosa.ca.us/departments/police/whatsnew/events/Pages/default.aspx
- City goal item under #4 Neighborhood Improvement (pg. 9) states: develop and support neighborhood associations.
Action Items:
- Have the Community Advisory Board (CAB) add to their 2008 agenda the completion of the first two Progress items noted above.
- Create an Office of Neighborhood Involvement (similar to the one in Portland, Oregon) to continue focus on providing neighborhood resources and organization tools to neighborhoods. http://www.portlandonline.com/oni/
- Utilize the City newsletter to promote neighborhood tools/resources on the City's website.
- Provide City meeting rooms at no charge to neighborhood groups (Finley Center, Steele Lane Center, etc.).
- Have the City Police Department establish procedures for working with neighborhood leaders and communication with neighborhoods to ensure more prompt responses to reports of criminal activity and public safety issues.
- Post a more interactive police activity log with summaries by neighborhood similar to the one posted by the San Rafael Police Department: http://www.cityofsanrafael.org/Government/Police_Department_Home_Page/Incident_Activity/Incident_Activity_by_Neighborhood.htm
