IT IS OUR RESPONSIBITILY TO PROTECT OUR YOUTHMORE THAN A FEW PEOPLE FEEL THAT SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF YOUTH CRIME IN OUR COMMUNITY IS IN GIVING THE RESPONSIBILITY TO LAW ENFORCEMENT. THE RESPONSIBILITY OF SOLVING YOUTH PROBLEMS, EDUCATING AND RAISING THEM ARE OURS. The responsibility of solving our youth propblems should not be giving to law enforcement, because the solution results in expanded prison facilities or death, both of which cost us. Our children and youth are our problems, parents, and communities alike. We cannot expect to develop character, excellence, high expectations, and fortitude in our youth if we do not encourage these qualities in ourselves. We are losing our youth to drugs, gang violence, alcohol, sexually transmitted diseases, suicide, poverty and homelessness. Our educational institutions are failing our children, because we have failed as parents, in giving support to their instructors, and our institutions that we cherish. Our only hope in saving and protecting our youth and our communities is to develop a network of parents, community is to develop a network of parents, community organizations, educators: ie schools, business leaders, churches and law enforcement. A consortium of members of law enforcement can educate youth youth about the consequences of antisocial behavior; educators and the school community can develop leadership qualities; parents can nurture, build self-esteem and respect in their children; business leaders can become become centers of influence in the everyday world of employment; and church leaders can lay the foundation of spiritual and moral values. Public forums must address the the best solutions for youth in peril. Education rather than incarceration must be the public growth area of the next decade, and policies must improve the conditions and state of classroom teachers. Additional funding must be provided to schools to promote male accountability and responsibility in minority youth for fatherhood in raising their offspring , as called for by presidential nominee Barack Obama. In other words "what we have here is a required opportunity to succeed. |
