I came to the Tracy area as a child, fifty years ago. I was the second oldest of eight children in our family, which included six sisters. I grew up on the family farm and joined the U.S. Air Force after high school, serving for six and ahalf years, including a tour in Vietnam. After leaving the military I returned to farming, growing tomatoes, sugar beets and beans east of Tracy.

In 1981 I became a volunteer reserve police officer with the Tracy Police Department and was hired as a full-time officer in 1983. During my years of service with Tracy I held every rank in the department except Chief of Police. My duties included patrol officer, supervisor and watch commander, Street Crimes Unit supervisor, administrative sergeant and commander of both the operations and service bureaus of the department. I am very proud to have served with a police department in a city that is rated as one of the safest in California.

After my retirement in 2006, I spent 2007 working for the Turlock Police Department as a part-time, interim captain whicle that agency recruited, hired and trained new members of its command staff.

My wife of twenty-two years, Marjorie, and I have a blended family of six daughters and eight grand-children, all of whom reside in the region. Marjorie and I have lived in Tracy for most of our marriage.
