Candidate for
Board Member; Sweetwater Union High School District; Seat 4

As a parent and educator, it has been my privilege to play an active role in the lives of South Bay children, their parents, teachers and administrators. With over 30 years of service as a classroom teacher and reading specialist I have developed a track record of success and experience that guide my current efforts to impact student learning. In addition, for the past 10 years, I have also served as a member of the Chula Vista School Elementary District Board, extending my experience and knowledge of the school system from a policy and management perspective.

I am now seeking an opportunity to continue to make a positive impact upon our educational community by seeking election as a member of the Sweetwater Union High School District Board, Seat #4. With your support and guidance, I know that we can work together so that all of our public middle schools and high schools are recognized as our region's greatest asset.

I plan to continue my track record as voice for the community and as consensus builder on the board to promote and reach student success. My efforts have worked! By supporting school site staff and administrators, Chula Vista Elementary School District has reached an incredible 10 years of growth and progress in all student indicators. This year is no different! State scores have just been released and Chula Vista Elementary School District student results have once again surpassed statewide scores in writing, language arts, mathematics, and science.

I believe this success is related to my focused approach and cooperation with my board colleagues to emphasize increased academic services for all students, including English Language Learners. That is why I made the decision to run for Sweetwater District Board, Seat # 4.

As a parent, I work hard to ensure that my son Marcos, who is now enrolled in a Sweetwater District school, has the best education possible. I will work to offer all students nothing less than what is available to my son. We must cooperate to improve our schools, in every neighborhood, at every grade level.

If all of us work together, student achievement will increase and drop-out rate will decrease! As you well know, parents play an important role in their child's education and success in their future. I know that a strong partnership can only bring economic success to our community. Having safe schools and safe classrooms with innovative programs will encourage students to keep interested and motivated. I am willing to take a stand for what is right and for what I believe in.

My experience as a Board Member for the past 10 years has given me the opportunity to bring TEAMWORK, RESULTS, & LEADERSHIP to the elementary school district, now help me to bring this experience to the Sweetwater School District. Together we can strive for Academic Excellence, anything else is unacceptable!
