Council Member; City of National City

As a fourth generation National City resident Mona has lived in her community her entire life. Mona attended Kimball Elementary School, the same elementary school as her parents, Rosie and Al Alvarado. Mona's great-grand father (born in 1882) worked on the railroad tracks in National City. Mona's paternal grandfather and grandmother married and lived their remaining years on 17th Street in National City. Mona's grandfather died in 1995 at the age of 101 years old. Mona's grandmother followed three years later.

Mona's parents moved to the central area of National City where Mona attended Granger Junior High School followed by Sweetwater High School, again the same school Mona's parents, Rosie and Al, attended. Mona's husband and her moved to east National City where they raised their three sons. Mona's two granddaughters are now attending the same elementary school that Mona's sons attended.

People always ask Mona, "Why are you running for City Council?" Her answer, "I want to ensure that our City is a safe, healthy, and vibrant community where we can work, play, and raise our families."

Mona goes on to say, "When I met my husband 33 years ago and he asked me to marry him, I said yes, with one condition, I will never leave National City."

It is with this level of commitment and that passion that Mona seek's the office of City Council in National City!
