Fiscal ResponsibilityBy Gary TomakCandidate for Board Member; Desert Sands Unified School District; 4 Year Full Term | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Schools Board Members have a responsibility to spend taxpayer dollers wisely and efficiently.I was recently part of a team representing Desert Sands which successfully acquired an improved bond financial rating. This translates to lower interest rates for our construction projects, and reduced costs to taxpayers. I promoted plans for the conversion to natural gas for our school bus fleet. This not only reduces fuel costs but promotes a cleaner environment. I also support the conservation program which has significantly reduced energy and utility costs. Desert Sands is currently working on projects to use solar energy as a power source. Lastly, and most importantly, when the California budget crisis threatened to severely impact schools, I supported inviting the community to participate in study sessions to offer suggestions for budget cuts which would least impact student achievement. |
