Candidate for Council Member; City of La Quinta

This information is provided by the candidate
I take this opportunity to announce I am running for the office of City Council Member. In the November 4th 2008 Municipal Election.
It is very important to choose wisely based on solid records of performance. This year, given the state of the economy nation-wide, it is particularly important to choose wisely. La Quinta has had good solid conservative leadership. There will be challenges that we have to deal with.

La Quinta is in a good solid financial position. This council has done a good job. You can take comfort in knowing we are still growing commercially and with quality, diverse housing, although things have definitely slowed down some. Balance budgets every year including our current fiscal budget for 2008-2009.

In my 22 years as your council member, I have attended and participated in every city council meeting. Always voting with La Quinta's best interests in mind. La Quinta's growth and development is an achievement we can all be proud of. As we approach build-out, our focus must be on diverse, balanced and smart growth. Remember: "Good decisions produce good results."

During my years on the La Quinta City Council, I have been Mayor Pro-tem, for 11 years, Chairman of the La Quinta Redevelopment Agency, Chairman of CVAG's Energy and Environmental Resources Committee, Member of CVAG's "MRF" Task Force, Chairman of the Coachella Valley Mountain Conservancy and many other committees dealing with water, air quality and disposal of waste.

These election decisions can and will affect your daily lives, property values, your neighborhoods, your streets, recreation, parks, youth and senior activities, your safety from crime, gangs, graffiti and how your city protects, invests and spends your tax money.

This election is about and will determine La Quinta's future. A large number of very important issues requiring thoughtful, well informed and prudent decisions are going to be before the city council such as the impact of California's budget crisis on La Quinta and economy overall. Continuing issues such as additional commercial development along Highway 111, increasing our law enforcement, our Village at La Quinta, affordable housing, zoning, recreation and park facilities including baseball and soccer fields. Issues such as capital improvements throughout the city, maintaining quality and diverse residential development, completing the SilverRock Golf Resort project to help secure our long term income and our economic success. Continuing to protect our environment and our mountains from development. "Quality of Life" issues must be a part of our decision making process.

I firmly believe in continued strong support for the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce, the La Quinta Arts Foundation, the Gerald Ford La Quinta Boys and Girls Club and the La Quinta Historical Society - all major assets to our community.

Your support will be much appreciated. Let's keep La Quinta "Number One." Thank you for your support.
