"What a City!" By Mike Naggar
Temecula is not an accident. Past and current leadership on all levels, in close partnership with it's citizens, have made her what she is today. We are one of the premier cities in the state of California . Each and every citizen should be proud of this, our hometown! Unprecedented for a city our size, we can boast of 39 parks ( two are sports parks); miles and acres of trails and open space; a Park Ranger Program; 2 libraries; 3 colleges, 2 museums (Children's Museum and Temecula History Museum); a regional Hospital; over half a billion being invested in our business community ( Mall, PHS, Abbot Labs and others) creating over 1,500 new jobs; the highest police to citizen ration in the county and 4 firefighters and paramedics on every emergency call with response times under 5 minutes! Over the past five years, we have spent over 100 million on road improvements and have another 250 million funded and ready to go, including the new French Valley Parkway breaking ground in 2009...Cities don't build freeways... but we do! Our new Civic Center in Old Town will open it's doors in 2010, fully funded. Together with private investment, over 120 million dollars have been infused into Old Town. You will witness the awesome transformation, making Old Town our "Downtown" !
Youth in Government, the Youth Master Plan, the Cultural Arts Master Plan, the Trails and Open Space Master Plan are all underway and being implemented! Moreover, At a time when most cities are running a deficit, we are running a surplus! We planned for the lean years by making sure we never spend more than we make. No cuts in service and no tax increases. What a city!
I've had the honor of serving you and being part of all of these successes my past 9 years on the council, and 2 years on the planning commission prior. It is important that your leaders never rest! As Temecula was not an accident but meticulously nurtured, we can easily lose her unless we continue to keep vigilant and stay dedicated to her continued success. |
