JOHN H. LORONA

Abstract (Professional Experience and Public Service)

John H. Lorona's professional experience has centered on assisting individuals that need academic guidance, career decision-making techniques, and maintain the process of comprehensive student case management. John's immediate efforts are to enhance student achievement and have students learn to engage career exploration, establish strategic educational goals and planning, set academic performance goals, and offers students hands-on activities that will integrate meaningful learning into their academic and everyday life.

John's ability to integrate his professional experience and public service experiences adds a mature balance to the workplace and the general community. John's further ability to blend into different cultures and communities allows him to reciprocate talent and skill. Currently, John is actively involved in the Native American Community, Hispanic Community, Hmong Community, and the African American Community. In all of the above communities, John is able to project professionalism through a collaborative partnership approach to ensure programmatic and student success. John's consistent public service and leadership as a School Board Trustee (past president) is responsible for the success of thousands of students at Selma Unified School District (SUSD). SUSD continues to forge academic excellence, economic security, personnel stability, schools reaching California distinguished school status, and long-term student achievement under his leadership.

John's professional experience has been to establish student service delivery systems by developing professional experience in educational management, teacher applications, adult and youth counselor, job development, student work experience and student case management. John's educational vision is to improve student success and access to college through specialized education and training. John's acquired professional experience has led to a concentrated student approach to good work ethics, professional appearance, excellent attendance, punctuality at the workplace, good listener, that students are success-oriented and confident. John is an assistant director at Reedley College in the Upward Bound Program.

John proudly serves as a committee (past) member to the California Community College Chancellor's Educational Advisory Committee, Member of the California School Board Association (CSBA), National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO). Member, Legislative Network Committee, Member, District Organization Committee, Member, Fresno County Self-Insurance Group Committee, Member, Fresno County Trustee Association.

John is a proud graduate of Cabrillo College, A.A. Degree (Political Science), a proud graduate of UC Santa Cruz, B.A. Degree (Political science), a proud graduate of UC Berkeley Extension Program (Teaching Credential), and a proud graduate of National University, MA Degree (Education).

John was born and raised in Selma California attended all Selma Schools and is a proud graduate of Selma High School. John is married to Diane Lugar Lorona, a respiratory Care Practitioner. Their younger daughter Krystine is a senior at Selma High School. John's older daughter Lisa is an assistant principal with a Master's Degree and Administrative Credential in Education.
