Growth in Discovery BayBy Mark S. SimonCandidate for Director; Town of Discovery Bay Community Services District | |

Planned managed growth is what we need, not another Mountain HouseThe issue of growth is what actually got me involved with the CSD in the first place. I witnessed developers trying to sell us on all the great things they were going to bring to our quaint little town. I read articles concerning developement from residents, some were for, more were against. There is a lesson to be learned here just from taking a look up the road a few miles at the Mountain House project. If there has ever been a better example of what happens, when you force growth without infrastructure, I can't find it. We live in a town that has a shortage of both police and fire protection. We have only one way in and one way out of our town. We were compared to Brentwood at one CSD meeting. I reminded the person who made that comparison that Brentwood is a self contained city. It has a police force, fully staffed fire service, shopping centers, service facilities and hundreds of businesses both large and small, that contribute tax revenue to the city. It has numerous entrances and exits, that connect to highways and backroads that make it convenient to leave the city. Discovery Bay has none of those things. Discovery Bay will one day become a city. It is foolish to try to force that change years before its time. |
