I have served the public all of my adult life. I spent 21 years in the United States Air Force, serving both on active duty and in the reserve force and 15 years with the Oakland Police Department. I know what people want from their representatives. As a Police Officer and a member of our nation's military I was held responsible and accountable for my decisions and actions. As a council member, you can expect nothing less than the same responsible, accountable and committed leadership from me that I have demonstrated in the United States Air Force, United States Air Force Reserve and the Oakland Police Department. I began my public service in 1977 when I enlisted in the United States Air Force in the Telecommunications field. After Basic Training I completed my initial skills training 3 weeks ahead of schedule. From the start I distinguished myself by being selected as the Keesler Air Force Base Telecommunications Center Specialist twice in the same year. After serving tours in Japan and Wyoming, I returned to Keesler Air For Base as an Instructor in the Air Training Command Non-Commissioned Officer's Leadership School where I managed the Non-Commissioned Officer's Prepatory Course. I was twice selected as Keesler Air Force Base Instructor of the Year and also earned the United States Air Force Air Training Command Instructor of the Year award. In 1989, I left active duty and joined the Air Force Reserve as a Unit Training Manager. My Air Force decorations include two Air Force Commendation Medals and four Humanitarian Service Medals.
In 1990, I began my law enforcement career with the Oakland Police Department. After the police academy I was assigned to the Patrol Division working nights. During this time I received many accolades for my outstanding work from the Oakland Police Command Staff and citizens. I patrolled the streets of Oakland for 8 years before getting promoted to Sergeant and being assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. As an investigator, I investigated all types Fraud, Burglary, Robbery and Homicide. During a confrontation with a suspect, I was injured, and after 15 years my law enforcement career was cut short and I was forced to retire.
I have been active in the community as a youth sports coach in baseball, basketball and football. I also served on the Public Arts Committee.
I am a graduate of California State University, East Bay with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Masters of Public Administration. Currently, I am a licensed Private Investigator and the owner and operator of Clearcut Investigative Services. |
