FRIENDS and NEIGHBORS

By Doug deHaan

Candidate for Councilmember; City of Alameda

This information is provided by the candidate
Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The next four years will prove to be a pivotal point for the City of Alameda. The City Council must resolve our budgetary problems. We must also continue to address the issues that face our city.

From day one as your council member I have stressed the importance of fiscally viable city operations, such as: Alameda Point, Alameda Power and Telecom, Chuck Corica Golf Complex, Public Safety, Public Works, etc. This is finally being addressed with the city's present intense focus on fiscal sustainability. I welcome the addition of the newly formed Blue Ribbon Fiscal Sustainability Task Group. The group's findings, coupled with the City Council and City Staff's commitment, will help to bring the city budget back into focus. It is the City Council's fiduciary responsibility to manage this problem. My challenge is to continue to meet quality of life requirements for Alamedans without compromising needs for present or future generations. (Fiscal and Environmental Sustainability).

As your council member for the past four years, the City Council has had numerous accomplishments to be proud of, such as: the renovation of Park and Webster Streets, Bridgeside Shopping Center, Towne Centre, Alameda Theater, the continued development of Harbor Bay Business Park, and the building of the new Main Library.

I have been instrumental in ensuring that the city has a more open and inclusive city government process. We are now able to view key meetings with streaming web video and we now have fewer closed session Council meetings. Appeal fees have been revised to reflect a lower flat rate of $100 for all appeals.

Alameda continues to be engaged in large development/redevelopment opportunities. We must avoid past oversights, such as the serious traffic problems that are currently impacting our island. As we continue to develop our city, I am proud to say that I have not, and will not take funding (directly or indirectly) from developers. I am not a career politician seeking a political career outside of Alameda. In fact, I am not a politician. Rather, I am an elected official working for YOU.

I ask for your support and vote once again to provide the leadership required to offer every Alamedan an equal voice in maintaining Alameda's quality of life as we continue to build upon our future. Here are some ways you can help: · Become a supporter and add your name to the list of endorsements · Contact your friends and neighbors via phone, e-mail, or handwritten note urging them to support my campaign · Log into my website at DougdeHaanAlameda.com for additional information and encourage your friends to view the website · Display my campaign sign in front of your home or in your window

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
