A social system which supports women and families will broaden the scope of choices for those who face difficult pregnancies.
As a Pro-Life Democrat I feel strongly that we should do all we can to alleviate the situations of those who, because of difficult circumstances, feel they have little choice other than abortion. I do not believe in passing laws which are punitive or likely to be declared unconstitutional or which appear to treat women in a condescending manner. I do believe that the legislature should pass laws which make abortion less likely because of the social support offered; so pregnant women can give birth knowing that they can care for their children. This would mean adequate prenatal care in both urban and rural areas, health insurance for mother and children, and assurance of the means to house and feed their children and obtain daycare.
