Power Plant Redevelopment: I support the efforts of the New Futures Committee and encourage an "adaptive reuse" mixed use project that creates exciting attractions that support our tourism based economy. Ideas such as: convention center, alternative energy generation research and education center, constructed wetlands and park with recycled water from the wastewater treatment plant, Marine Animal Rescue & Marine Biology center, public observation platforms from top of stacks, and Maritime Museum seem to be compatible uses that could be included to provide a worldclass attraction and create "head-of-household" jobs. Boat Haulout: I am cautious about a boat haulout as currently proposed. I do not support a project that encroaches or builds on Mother's or "Coleman Beach". We must make sure that such a facility does not impact the viewshed and open air experience of our new "harbor walk". All other location options need to be explored as well as an "Economic Feasibility Study" to determine the actual demand and estimated use of such a facility. Fishing & Farming: As a caterer & chef I have respect and relationships with our local farming and fishing communities and see them as integral components to local self sufficiency and the tourism based economy. Water Supply: We must work to revitilize and restore our drinking water wells & to reclaim/recycle treated water from our wastewater treatment plant. We must continue to repair our aged sewage collection system. |
