Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Christopher Mateo

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Lathrop

This information is provided by the candidate

I am running for the City Council of Lathrop because I am concerned about the following issues and they are: Public Safety, Health, Cleanliness, Employment and the Quality of Life.

On the issue of Public Safety, I realize that our Police Department is sub-contracted with the San Joaquin Sheriff's Office at the present time. Should there come a time in the future where we will have an independent Department, I would like to propose ideas on recruiting Police Officers as well as Fire Fighters to have better incentives in order to retain them. We can easily lose them to other communities because these positions are very competitive.

On the issue of health, I would like to see a hospital built here. I think it is a necessity for the residents of Lathrop. We have the San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp and several hospitals in Manteca but I think the community will be best served if we have one built in our City.

On the issue of Cleanliness, I have two distinct concepts. The first is on the environment. A clean city is a healthy city. It is our responsibility, as residents of Lathrop, to pick up our litter, beautify our front lawn and keep our neighborhood clean. But it is also the responsibility of our City Officials to make sure that our water supply is free from pesticides and other toxic chemicals. The second concept on cleanliness, which I think is more important of the two, is a clean Fiscal Policy. I would like to propose for a position of a City Auditor who has the ability to audit our revenues and expenditures, thereby ensuring a clean City Hall.

And on the issues of Employment and the Quality of Life, the growth and development of businesses and industries must benefit our community as a whole. And by attracting high-end businesses and industries, we can create new employment opportunities, not to mention the city revenues that we can collect. If we increase employment opportunities here, we can reduce commuters to the Bay Area for employment and shopping especially with the price of gas now a days. On top of that we can reduce the amount of pollution thereby improving our Quality of Life.

So, if you agree with me on these issues, I would like to represent you, the residents of Lathrop in the process of legislation and again in the political process at large. By being new at the City Council, I can bring new ideas.

Your VOTE will determine the Cleaner City of Lathrop.

Your VOTE will determine the Healthier City of Lathrop.

Your VOTE will determine the Represented City Lathrop.

Your VOTE will determine the Improved City of Lathrop.

Your VOTE will determine the Safer City of Lathrop.
