Fully Funding Public Safety

When it comes to keeping our communities safe, Chula Vista needs a councilmember whose top priority will be public safety. As former Executive Director of the San Diego County Crime Commission, I share the dedication and commitment of Chula Vista first responders to keeping our streets safe and our families protected. It is unacceptable that the people at city hall would even consider closing down fire stations. Even in tight budget times, we must invest in public safety to give our police and firefighters the tools they need to protect our neighborhoods and families.

Investing Equally in our Neighborhoods

The growth of Chula Vista though impressive in scope, has left many of its residents facing unnecessary challenges and having to do without services that are essential for any type of long-term sustainability, which is necessary to enhance the quality of life. One of the key reasons I'm running for office is because the city's growth up to now has omitted or not mitigated the following: lack of essential services like libraries and senior centers, unnecessarily congested streets, and letting developers profit without fully ensuring infrastructure improvements throughout the city. We need to make sure that the 805 does not divide our city, we are 1 Chula Vista, and we must invest equally in all our neighborhoods.

Reducing Traffic Congestion

Our city needs to address the traffic congestion situation by providing better traffic light synchronization for smoother flowing traffic to unclog our surface streets. We need to repair aging roads and install needed traffic signals for better traffic flow.

Saving our Homes

Foreclosures are affecting many of the residents of the City of Chula Vista, including families and retirees. I am concerned that many Chula Vistans are seeing the value of their homes drop, while many of their neighbors have and continue to lose their homes. Every time a family loses their home, it affects the ability of that family to get a 2nd mortgage to pay for their child's college education. I will make sure that the City of Chula Vista is proactive about preventing foreclosures by working with and educating our residents about purchasing options and establishing a hotline to maintain our residents informed about foreclosure assistance and other issues impacting Chula Vista.

Ensuring Quality Healthcare

Prescription drug costs and access continue to have a substantial impact on our community. Prescription drugs are a basic necessity for many of our uninsured seniors. This gap in coverage puts a steady supply of these life-saving treatments out of reach for too many. I will explore the possibility of the City of Chula Vista purchasing prescription drugs in bulk to reduce out-of-pocket costs for medicine for our seniors.
