Ram Singh believes and pursues charitable causes. Ram Singh will infuse fresh ideas based on his vast experience and add a synergy to the San Jose City Council. Rarely an applied but practical scientist runs for a political office like this. His principled and fair stand on issues is distictly apart from the ways of regular politicians. Please examine the candidates' abilities carefully without being mired in propaganda and artificialities.Charitable Ram Singh RAM SINGH has dedicated his life in the service of humanity. He has been an advisor and mentor to students of many nationality, ethnicity, gender, and physical disabilities. Students seek his advice not only on the academic issues but also on the matters of admission, financial and job related problems, and family difficulties. He has helped thousands of his graduates to lead successful and prosperous careers. College of Engineering at San Jose State University honored him with Faculty Excellence in Service Award in 2006. Ram Singh adopted his village, Bangra in India, where he was born. He built bridges, roads, schools, and other facilities for the benefit of the villagers. He has aided girls from poor families to meet the expenses of their weddings. He has generously contributed to schools in India where poor and orphans are housed and educated. He has regularly donated to many charities in the USA such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, Lung Association, Red Cross, and many others. He has donated blood in blood drives. He has made generous donation to ICARE Hospital under the noble leadership of Dr. Sushil Choudhary in New Delhi. His able ophthalmologists perform 25,000 cataract and glaucoma operations each year on poor people free of charge and keep them in the hospital till cured. ICARE Hospital implanted 100 pairs of eyes into blind people last year. These eyes were donated by generous relatives immediately after the death of their dear ones. I am proud to be elected on the Board of ICARE Hospital in Noida (http://www.icarehospital.com). Ram Singh has actively participated in many activities of South Campus Neighborhood improvements, International Students Center, and various forums dealing with social and educational subjects. He has actively raised funds for sufferers of earthquakes, schools, and other charitable causes. Currently, he is a member of Commonwealth Club, South Campus Neighborhood Association, Santa Teresa Foothills Neighborhood Association, member of Board of Directors for ICARE Hospital in New Delhi/India, San Francisco Yoga Society, and other charitable and social groups. He also belongs to many professional societies such as American Society of Engineering Education, American Society of Civil Engineers, and National Society of Professional Engineers. He was elected statewide president of California Society of Professional Engineers, President of Engineers Club, a representative of College of Engineering on the San Jose State University Academic Senate for six years, and is the founding president of Federation of Indo-American Associations of Northern California. He has served on local and state commissions and boards. In January 2008, California Governor appointed Ram Singh to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board. Ram Singh has been recognized for his service and scholarly achievements on many occasions. He is well known in the community because of his dedication, expertise, and hard work. Dr. Singh earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University, and then he has been professor at University of British Columbia and San Jose State University. He has taught, mentored, and been consultant to many companies in the area of planning, maintenance of infrastructure, resource conservation, systems analysis, benefit/cost analysis, ethics, and environmental assessments. His expertise and extensive experience bears directly on the issues confronted by our City today. Ram Singh is a hard working problem solver. He is a principled person who will make his stand clear on any issue. He is also a people person, who believes in listening and having dialogs. He will add a synergy to the San Jose City Council. Rarely, such an experienced Applied Scientist runs for a political office. Ram Singh represents fresh ideas and possesses proven scientific tools and concepts to manage the affairs of our City.
