Questions & Answers

1. Please provide a brief list of your qualifications in bullet format, using an asterisk (*) to represent a bullet. (No more than 25 words for this section.)

2. What are your priorities for the operation of the District Attorney’s office? (No more than 150 words total for questions 2 and 3.)

Steve Cooley is a nonpartisan prosecutor committed to representing all the people. He will work with the U.S. Attorney's Office to fight transnational gangs; implement anti-graffiti program to deter and prosecute graffiti crimes; create and innovative program to prosecute and prevent animal cruelty; expand the High Tech Division to fight growing problem of identity theft crime.

3. What training is or should be required for new attorneys to equip them to be effective prosecutors? (No more than 150 words total for questions 2 and 3.)

The DA's Office has the most advanced and intensive four-week training program for new prosecutors, including ethics. This program is enhanced by the new Criminal Justice Institute for prosecutors and law enforcement professionals in Los Angeles County to promote and teach best practices in criminal investigation and prosecution.


Responses to questions asked of each candidate are reproduced as submitted to the League.  Until 5:00 p.m. on April 4, 2008, candidates for District Attorney must limit their answers to 175 words total for all questions so that a paper Voters Guide may be published. Specific word limits are as follows: 25 words for question 1; 150 words total for questions 2 and 3. After 5:00 p.m. on April 4, 2008, word limits will no longer apply.
