Joy Brown-Price is an active member of her community. For many years, she has been involved in civic projects and committees to better serve the community. She currently serves as a member of the Inglewood Police Commission and a Board Member of Urban Healthcare Project in Inglewood. She has been an official Role Model for A-MAN Science and Discovery program for several years.

Ms. Brown-Price is a wife and mother who believes in family participation. Mr. Price retired after 25 years with the Community Redevelopment Agency of LA as Project Manager. He is currently an economic development consultant and active in politics. They have two children, a son who is 25 and a daughter 16. Their children have each been involved in community efforts and politics from a very young age. Their son was a Democratic Party campaign coordinator for Inglewood's effort to re-elect Gray Davis. Their daughter is currently a youth advisor to Assemblyman Curren D. Price as a member of the Committee for a Better 51st Assembly District.

Joy has been a long-time labor activist. She was an integral part of the team that in 1983 brought AFSCME to the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency where she is still employed after more than 27 years. Joy works as a housing compliance analyst and is currently the First Vice President and Political Chair of her union, AFSCME Local 585. She continues her labor involvement as the First Vice President of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and serves as Executive Director of African - American Community & Labor Leader's Alliance.

Joy is an elected member of the County Central Committee of the Democratic Party where she also serves as Secretary of the Assembly District Committee and member of the Labor Committee.

Ms. Brown-Price was recently honored as a "Shero" of the 51 st Assembly District by Assemblymember Curren D. Price in a formal ceremony with KTLA news anchor Michaela Pereira as Mistress of Ceremonies. Member Price defines a Shero as "...a woman who inspires others through her own actions. She has made a difference by giving a significant amount of her time through community service, community pride and/or community leadership for noteworthy improvements."
