Eliminate The TaxBy Billy A. "Bill" ReedCandidate for State Representative; District 130; Republican Party | |

The Citizens of Berks are demanding the Elimination of the school property tax.For several years we have been demanding that the school property tax be eliminated and shifted to sales tax and a small income tax increase. Currently there are four 'plans' discussed in Harrisburg. Each plan and its Legislator promoters are playing tug of war with the citizens thereby getting nothing accomplished in this area. It is my belief that that each of the plans may have some merit. I believe that we should combine all four plans into one Act and put the issue to the Voters by Referendum much as was done with Act 1 a couple of years ago. If the voters would vote as was done to Act 1 we could put this issue aside, at least for a while. If, as I suspect, the People decide otherwise, then, that would be an Order from the People to get it done and the method to accomplish the task would have been given. I have taken the Pledge not to raise taxes while in office. The only acceptable exception is to eliminate the school property tax and shift it to other areas. |
