Questions & Answers

1. How would you determine that the schools are using federal, state and local funds wisely and fairly and how would you report your findings to the community?

In order to monitor school fund usage there has to be a clear vision. I would start by extensive review of federal, state and local funds, review school plans, set realistic attainable goals, and work closely with the superintendent to monitor school board policy. Through increased community collaboration I would encourage community input, board meeting attendence participation, community outreach, and be accessible to community concerns and or suggestions.

2. Are the schools offering instruction appropriate to the diverse educational abilities of all the students?

The school instruction to students with diverse educational abilities can always have room for improvement. Operating a district like Berryessa is complex. I've seen some improvement with student curriculm. However, English langauge learners are difficult to address so we have to develop a comprehensive plan involving school principals, teachers, parents, and the community in order make this a priority.

3. Where do you want the District to be five years from now? What steps should the District take to get there?

I would like to see the district with no program improvement schools by increasing its support of those schools at risk. I would like to see the district with increased participation from the community, local business and an increase to supportive services to district schools. I would like see no budget deficit and a district that can generate some of its own funding through outreach and corporation solicitaion. I would like the district to consistently focus on student achievement, parent, and community involvement by providing an open and receptive environment.
