I WILL STRONGLY OPPOSE ANY MOVE TO ABOLISH THE INCOME TAX CREDIT FOR RESIDENTS EMPLOYED OUTSIDE OF NEWTOWNI will STRONGLY OPPOSE any move to abolish the Income Tax Credit for residents employed outside of Newtown. Several current Council members have gone on record saying they would vote to abolish this tax credit, which would increase the taxes paid by many Newtown residents. Any increase in taxes should be approved by the voters, NOT by the elected officials. I would explore alternative avenues for funding of projects and Government services. I would utilize my expertise in financial planning to operate under a balanced fiscal budget, thus giving the residents the most "bang for their buck". Being a retired 34 year veteran of the police division, I am very well versed in the benefits of mutual aid within the safety department. There is no reason why "mutual aid" cannot work between other public service departments. Properly implimented, the need for duplication of services and wasteful spending of taxpayers dollars would be eliminated. |
