1. What are your qualifications for office? (50 word limit)
In my 18 years on the board, I have made many difficult decisions. I have prepared for each of those decisions with lots of research, conversations with parents, consultation with other board members across the state, and with an eye for what was best for our students.2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)
The current board has its top three goals: strengthening student achievement, assuring financial stability and improving the culture in all our schools. I work every week to develop and monitor strategies for those goals. I will continue to work for the stability and adequacy of school funding which must be uppermost in the minds of all board members. All board members must devote much time and effort to convincing an ever more skeptical electorate to vote for school funding. I will analyze the current survey to identify ways to make our schools feel even more welcoming.3. What is your position on amending the Ohio Constitution with regard to the funding of public schools? (150 word limit)?
I have worked hard in gathering over 1,300 signatures to put the proposed amendment before the voters. However, I wish that the Ohio General Assembly would sieze the leadership opportunity to completely overhaul the complicated method for funding schools in Ohio. The Supreme Court has declared the method of funding to be unconstitutional four times in ten years. Sadly, we still have a process that virtually no one thinks is working well for the future of our state.
