Candidate for
Board Member; Bodega Bay Fire Protection District

Cathy Beck believes in sound fiscal policies, including a balanced budget and emergency reserves. A resident here for more than 30 years, she realizes that taxes are a burden to many in our community, and she is committed to spending tax dollars wisely. Her record has shown she votes what she believes is in the best interests of our residents, even when facing politically volatile situations. Having grown up in the fire service (her father is a retired SFFD Assistant Chief), she understands and supports the dedication, training and high level of service our firefighters give the community.

With your support, Cathy plans to see that our District remains a fiscally sound, sovereign entity. She will advocate keeping the tax rate lowered for as long as possible and also will work towards hiring more paramedics for our District.

Cathy was appointed to the Board in 2002 by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and was elected in 2003 by the voters of Bodega Bay. In her five years of service on the Board, she:

• Helped turn a $200,000 deficit into $750,000 in reserves.

• Successfully advocated for lowered tax rates for 2006/2007 and 2007/2008. Voted against consolidation with Russian River Fire, but supports sharing administrative staff costs with them, resulting in savings of more than $200,000 to date.

• Actively worked to replace outdated firefighting equipment.

• Voted for over 20% increase in firefighter wages, including excellent benefits.

• Supports the unanimous Board decision to install a solar system.
